Editor’s Note: AVM Cloud announced its latest solution for hybrid cloud environments called Fusion, to an audience of IT professionals representing local enterprises at a hybrid cloud workshop held in KL yesterday. The event was kicked off by AVM Cloud CTO, Kenny Lim, who gave the welcome remarks. This was followed by presentations from Lai Yoong Seng, Veeam’s System Engineer & Inside Solution Architect (ASEAN), who explained the backend technology that empowers AVM Cloud Fusion’s backup, replication and disaster recovery capabilities.
Soon after that, Khoo Swee Chuan, Senior Product Manager of AVM Cloud, went on to demonstrate how AVM Cloud uses the technology to build services in the cloud that are tailor-made for Malaysian enterprises.
To give a background on the company, AVM Cloud was founded in 2010 and is currently one of the biggest cloud providers in Malaysia, specialising in Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS). The company has been committed to providing integrated, end-to-end cloud computing solutions to deliver excellence and value to enterprise and FSI sector customers in Malaysia to enable and improve their security and operation efficiency.
Khoo and the AVM Cloud team also shared the following information regarding the company’s standing and achievements:
AVM Cloud currently has three data centres in Malaysia (located in KL and Cyberjaya), that come with Tier-3 standard to meet various compliance needs.
The company has a lot of experience in migrating and managing complex workloads, and it is currently hosting over 4500 virtual machines, providing cloud managed services for some of the biggest companies in Malaysia.
To date, AVM Cloud has been appointed to consult and deploy a major tech refresh project for a Tier-1 local bank and migrated one of the biggest conglomerates and F&B chain’s major workload to AVM Cloud.
As such, AVM Cloud believes in technology innovation as a core value of the company. At the moment, the company already has a slew of services available and made to cater to the needs of local businesses that wish to migrate to the cloud and make the best of their hybrid environments. In addition, the company has a team of product and R&D specialists to enable additional services in its future roadmap, such as AI, Machine learning, Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Software-as-a-Service.
Details of the new AVM Cloud Fusion offering are described in the official press release, which follows:
AVM Cloud Announces Fusion to Help Malaysian Enterprise & SME Customers to Modernise and Optimise Their Backup & DR Strategy in Cloud & On-Premises
AVM Cloud has announced Fusion, a hybrid cloud solution for disaster recovery. This new solution is developed and designed by AVM Cloud to cater for local Enterprise and SME customers. Instead of investing solely in a public cloud or privately managed infrastructure, this solution offers the luxury of combining the core functions of both in one package to derive better user experience, increased resiliency, and greater flexibility.
“AVM Cloud Fusion offers hybrid disaster recovery services with various packages to cater from small to large capacity based on the customer’s environment. Many customers lack the experience, skill set and resources in managing their disaster recovery deployments and migrations. Through AVM Cloud Fusion, we are able to provide our trusted services and experiences to enable customers on their data protection journey to ensure their business continuity,” said Kenny Lim, CTO of AVM Cloud.
Benefits of AVM Cloud Fusion for Disaster Recovery
- Comprehensive disaster recovery on a budget
- Simplified DR management
- The ideal backup target
- Compliance made easy
- The scalability factor
A complete disaster recovery solution has traditionally been both complex and expensive to deploy. Ideally, you have two locations: your primary data centre and a separate location that supports the operation should the main site fail. But maintaining this type of environment is cost prohibitive, hence the reason why secondary sites are mostly deployed by larger companies with deep pockets and fully staffed IT departments.
After all, you need resources in the form of server hardware, storage devices, bandwidth, and manpower to run two locations. And the bigger your workloads, the bigger the demand.
With the flexibility of going to cloud or/and on-premises in AVM Cloud Fusion, disaster recovery services suddenly go from cost prohibitive to cost effective. With no need to pour excess funds into physical resources, smaller businesses can spend their IT budgets in ways that would not have been possible before.
Simplicity is among the biggest advantages a hybrid cloud brings to disaster recovery. Through AVM Cloud Fusion, we assume the responsibility of setup, configuration, ongoing maintenance, and monitoring the backup and DR environment. For the user, managing this dual infrastructure is as simple as switching between your primary and secondary DR sites from one centralised interface. This is a huge perk for organisations at any level. Even major corporations can benefit from time savings that allow them to focus on core competencies and carving out a competitive edge.
Simply having one backup copy of your data isn’t enough. You need a copy you can immediately access onsite, and at least one other copy tucked away in an offsite position. Fusion Connect solution helps you bulletproof your data protection strategy by providing that secondary backup destination. AVM Cloud offers the public cloud services that can stand in as the location you use as a disaster recovery site.
If you’re subject to HIPAA, PCI-DSS, or other compliance standards, hosting sensitive data in the public cloud is a risky proposition. Rules and regulations surrounding who has access to your information and how long it is retained mean you have to remain cautious about inviting a third party into the picture.
AVM Cloud Fusion offers a compromise by allowing you to replicate and encrypt your data in your own private network before sending it to the recovery site. In a properly managed environment, meeting your business continuity needs and compliance requirements is much easier.
You want your most vital IT infrastructure components to be able to grow as your business grows. A disaster recovery solution is no exception. In a traditional environment, outgrowing your server requires you to buy, install and manage new hardware.
With AVM Cloud Fusion, you have the ability to tap into a bottomless capacity and scale up on an as-needed basis. The virtually limitless scalability of cloud computing means you can deploy countless virtual servers and even operate multiple recovery sites if business demands it.
The hybrid cloud is rapidly changing how the enterprise approaches disaster recovery. You have the ability to use the public cloud as both a backup destination and fully functioning offsite location all while retaining a comfortable level of control from the confines of your own private network. Sure, there are challenges as far as security and recovery time are concerned. Hence, choosing the right service provider like AVM Cloud Fusion will be able to address your data protection, recovery objectives and other concerns.
